Who to refer:

  • Patients aged over 65 years with complex comorbidity

Unexplained falls

  • Possible Parkinson’s or other movement disorders, e.g. tremor.  Please refer untreated (Dr Keane / Dr Maguire)

Patients of all ages with post-acute stroke problems or cerebral small vessel disease (Dr Keir)

  • Non-specific or unexplained symptoms e.g. syncope, dizziness, breathlessness, weight loss, anaemia

Review of complex polypharmacy

Who not to refer:

  • Patients under 65 years (unless suspected Parkinson’s – Dr Maguire will see)

Single organ pathology in an otherwise fit older person (please refer to appropriate specialty)

  • Acute stroke or TIA (refer to Neurovascular clinic)

Patients requiring full functional and multidisciplinary assessment (please refer to ARC)

  • Memory Clinic patients: Should be referred to the MATS Service (Memory Assessment and Treatment Service in Psychiatry of Old Age)
