Patients with acute psychiatric or mental health needs, who require same day assessment and who cannot wait for urgent referral to standard locality services. This will include those with suicidal intent, or some patients with acute psychosis.
The patient must also not require emergency medical assessment (eg due to delirium, overdose).

Mid Lothian
Midlothian mental health emergencies – for urgent referrals please refer to Midlothian IHTT between 08:00-24:00 and outwith these hours please contact MHAS.
West Lothian
In-hours please contact St John’s Hospital, Livingston, on 01506 523000 and ask for the ACAST duty bleep.
East Lothian out-of-hours emergencies
Please contact East Lothian IHTT from 08:00-24:00 and MHAS outwith those times.
