History

  • Young to middle age
  • Fall or twist
  • Immediate pain
  • Possible effusion – slow onset
  • Difficulty weight bearing
  • Medial pain

Signs

  • Limp
  • Local tenderness
  • Possible effusion
  • Possilbe MCL laxity
  • Difficulty kneel/squat
Pain on stressing MCL

Secondary care referral

  • Not indicated unless fails to improve in 6weeks or gross laxity detected

  • X-Ray – AP standing & lateral

Primary care treatment

  • Analgesia
  • PRICE (Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation)
  • Physiotherapy
