Heel pain

Information

Most common cause of heel pain in children and adolescents is Severs Disease. It is caused by repeated stress of the Achilles tendon into the calcaneus.  This stress results in the area becoming inflamed and painful.

The most common symptoms of Severs are:

  • Heel pain either during or after participation in sports or activity
  • Pain on palpation of heel or distal Achilles tendon – can also be sore down into plantar fascia.
  • Reluctance to weight bear through heel
  • Tightness of quads, hamstrings and calves.

These symptoms usually appear gradually and often after periods of growth.
