About RefBites

Webinars and e-learning are gaining popularity, and their use, practicality, and cost-effectiveness make them important in the post-COVID era and this trend seems set to continue. One such popular mode of online learning is ‘pre-recorded videos’. Videos provide wonderful ways to share information, improve user knowledge and provide flexibility in learning. They also provide a break from reading text.

Evidence shows that effectiveness of an educational video clip is partly based on the user but the video length makes all the difference! Keeping it short and simple will mean that it is easier to watch and viewers are much more likely to view them to the end. Based on this, RefHelp is pleased to launch another educational resource titled RefBites-Bitesize Learning , which are short educational videos that are 5 to 10 minutes in duration packed with a variety of bitesize information on a variety of topics. The main focus will be on new and changing information about key clinical areas, specialist services, referral guidelines/patient pathways or specialists’ advice and tips for diagnosis, referral and/or management, and so on.

Objectives

The short videos are aimed to address either one or more of the following objectives:

  1. To provide essential clinical updates in a short, simple and timely manner.
  2. To motivate compliance to referral guidelines and reinforce best practices.
  3. To provide a platform to promote new and or unique specialist services available in Lothian.
  4. To address issues in referrals and triaging thereby improving overall referral practice and patient journey.

The content providers are our very own Lothian Specialists who will present topics within a local context. This on-demand learning format is specially curated for all primary care clinicians to fit into their busy schedules. They can serve as ideal lunchtime learning sessions!
