Tendinopathy

The estimated prevalence of tendinopathy in the lower limb is around 12 %. Patellar tendinopathy affects around 17% of people.   Patellar tendinopathy primarily affected the younger population

Signs

  • An Acute change in load preceding pain starting
  • Localised pain
  • Pain can easy after repetitive activity has started
  • Pain going up or down stairs
  • Persistent pain related to mechanical loading
  • Age 15-30

Tests

  • Pain on palpation
  • Pain on contractile component over tendon area
  • Tendinopathy is a clinical diagnosis

Management

  • Activity modification
  • Offer advice on core treatments
    • Activity and exercises – Physiotherapy
    • Interventions to achieve weight loss if the person is Overweight
    • Oral Analgesics
