Who to refer:
- Pyelonephritis and ill – on call General Medicine
- Pyelonephritis & under followup for stone disease – on call Urology
- Renal colic and uncontrolled pain – on call Urology
- Renal mass on scan – urgent suspicion of cancer to Urology
- Ureteric calculi or hydronephrosis on scan – refer urgently to Urology
- Renal calculi – refer routine to Urology
Who not to refer:
- Normal investigations and no red flags
- Or where other pathways more suitable e.g. haematuria
- Where admission not indicated – initial referral to radiology, depending on presentation.
