cCBT Long Term Conditions

​cCBT Long Term Conditions (LTCs) is for those who have additional mild to moderate depression or anxiety (including phobias or panic) and a qualifying LTC.   

This is an online cognitive behavioural therapy (cCBT) programme addressing the psychological impact of several common Long-Term Conditions (LTCs) outlined below. The programmes are provided via email-generated links sent to the patient.  More details are available on the cCBT welcome page including its evidence base for high improvement rates. There is a SilverCloud patient information leaflet. It is accessible from any internet enabled device – including Smartphones/tablets.

cCBT Programmes for LTCs.
These consist of 10 weekly core modules, each lasting around 40 minutes and spread over 6-8 weeks.

Who to refer:

A reading age of 10 to 11 years is needed to complete cCBT programmes; much of the material is audio and video based for those who have lower levels of literacy.

Home User Technical Requirements

Patients completing the programme require:

  • An internet enabled device (PC/Laptop, smartphone or tablet)
  • A stable internet connection

Long Term Conditions cCBT is suitable for patients:

  • With mild to moderate depression and/or anxiety, including phobias and panics, associated with:
    • Chronic Pain
    • Coronary Heart Disease (CHD)
    • Diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2) – please indicate in the referral if Type 1 or 2
    • Lung Conditions (including. COPD)
    • Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
  • Willing to be pro-active in their treatment recovery and to use an online treatment
  • With a personal email address to receive a link to access the treatment provided with referral
  • Who are currently undertaking another cCBT treatment: patients must please complete ‘Beating the Blues’ cCBT treatment before starting any Silvercloud cCBT programme.

How to refer:

Please refer through SCI Gateway via: Royal Edinburgh–>General Psychiatry–>Protocol: cCBT Referral

Please select the appropriate SilverCloud treatment from the dropdown list available on SCI Gateway

Please note that patients can only undertake one cCBT treatment at a time

Please include an email address with consent for this to be passed on, and there are reminders on the SCI Gateway protocol to do this. Please avoid any shared (work/family) email address wherever possible. Patients who do not have a personal email address will be contacted by telephone.

If it is not possible to refer via SCI Gateway, referrals should be made by completing the appropriate SilverCloud referral form.  This should be emailed from any @nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk email address to silvercloudcbt@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk.
