Information
The paediatric surgery service at RHCYP provides emergency and elective General Surgery of childhood for Lothian for children and young people up to the age of 16 years, and specialist paediatric surgical services for the South East of Scotland. There is a 24-hour emergency service at RHCYP.
There are eight consultant paediatric surgeons, two of whom work between Tayside and Lothian, two who provide outreach to Fife and one who provides outreach to West Lothian and Borders.

How to refer:
NHS Lothian
- Bleep the on call paediatric surgery FY via RHCYP Switchboard and send the child to RHCYP A&E. Clinical details can be discussed over the phone.
- For urgent advice call the on call paediatric surgery registrar via RHCYP switchboard.
- Please ask patients to remain fasted until they are assessed at hospital.
NHS Fife, Tayside, and Borders
- Please refer to local ED and they will refer on if appropriate.
