Medicine for the Elderly (including rapid access appointments)

Parkinson’s clinic

Services available 

  • Plain Radiology including ultrasound
  • Access to CT, MRI etc
  • ECG
  • Echocardiography
  • 24 hour ambulatory ECG
  • Spirometry
  • Endoscopy

Who to refer:

  • Patients aged over 65 years with complex comorbidity
  • Unexplained falls
  • Possible Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, e.g. tremor.  Please refer untreated
  • Non-specific or unexplained symptoms e.g. syncope, dizziness, breathlessness, weight loss, anaemia
  • Review of complex polypharmacy

Who not to refer:

  • Patients under than 65 years  (unless suspected Parkinson’s – Dr Duncan will see)
  • Single organ pathology in an otherwise fit older person (please refer to appropriate specialty)
  • Acute stroke or TIA (refer to Neurovascular clinic)
  • Patients requiring full multidisciplinary assessment (please refer to OPRA)
