Please see details of where and when the locality clinics are on the Lothian Sexual Health website. This link can be shared with patients.
Lothian Sexual Health clinics are distributed throughout Lothian. They offer a range of sexual health services for men and women of all ages. The locality clinics offer several levels of sexual health care, with Howden Sexual Health Service providing specialist input (including HIV care, Menopause and Complex Sexual & Reproductive Health (SRH) clinics)
Most clinics are nurse led and can provide:
- Contraception including condoms and all methods of emergency contraception
- STI testing for all genders including for HIV
- Testing, support, advice and provision of PrEP
- Management of symptoms of STIs
- Treatment of STIs including gonorrhoea and syphilis – ideally cases of gonorrhoea in West Lothian should be referred to Howden (where cultures plates are available)
- Pregnancy testing/counselling/referral
- Cervical screening (opportunistically where the woman is attending for another reason: routine screening is offered in general practice)
- Implant insertion and removal. These can be booked online via Book an Appointment | Lothian Sexual Health
- IUD insertion and removal. These can be booked online via Book an Appointment | Lothian Sexual Health
If for any reason, the peripheral clinic is unable to provide the sexual health service needed, the patient will be guided to a service elsewhere.
