What we will see
- Diagnostic difficulties
 - Pain unresponsive to simple non-interventional measures
 
Specific tests
- Clinical examination area of pain – palpation of radial side of wrist = tenderness, reduced ulnar deviation of wrist, positive Finklestein’s manoeuvre
 
Trial of therapy pre-referral
- Oral and topical NSAIDs
 - Wrist splint
 - Rest
 - If trained to do so the GP may consider giving a steroid injection into the first extensor compartment
 
Whom to direct referral to
- Injection clinic
- Run by Allied Health Professional under supervision of consultant hand surgeon
 
 - Any hand surgeon
