Patients with acute psychiatric needs, who require same day assessment and who cannot wait for urgent referral to standard locality services. Please see appropriate HSCP service for detail.
These will include those with suicidal intent, or some patients with acute psychosis.
The patient must also not require emergency medical assessment (eg due to delirium, overdose).

Edinburgh Mental Health emergencies are managed by MHAS, open 24 hours a day.
Mid Lothian
Midlothian mental health emergencies – for urgent referrals please refer to Midlothian IHTT between 08:00-24:00 and outwith these hours please contact MHAS
West Lothian
In-hours please contact St John’s Hospital, Livingston, on 01506 523000 and ask for the ACAST duty bleep.
East Lothian out-of-hours emergencies
Out-with the normal working hours of the CMHT, emergency/urgent support is available via Intensive Home Treatment Team (IHTT). Working hours 08:00-midnight, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.
East Lothian mental health emergencies – please contact East Lothian IHTT from 08:00-24:00 and MHAS outwith those times.
