The Colorectal Surgical Unit is one of Europe’s largest dedicated specialist centres for colorectal surgery. The unit provides all elective and emergency colorectal surgery for Lothian region and a tertiary referral service for further afield.
It is based at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. The unit also provides services at East Lothian Community Hospital in Haddington, Leith Community Treatment Centre and St John’s Hospital in Livingston.
Within the unit there is a dedicated team comprising of colorectal surgeons, nurse specialists and practitioners, ward and theatre nurses, a stoma specialist service, pharmacist and administrative support to ensure the best care of patients.
