Information
The Community Occupational Therapy service is hosted within East Lothian Rehabilitation Service (ELRS).
Occupational Therapy aims to support people by enabling them to live more independently within their home environment. We carry out assessments and interventions within the persons home and find solutions to enable greater independence.
This may include:
- Functional Assessment of Activities of Daily Living
- Transfers e.g. chair/bed/toilet
- Kitchen assessment
- Bathing assessments
- Graded rehabilitation practice
- Provision of equipment
- Moving and Handling assessment
- Assessment of Postural needs (including in care homes) eg. individualised seating, sleep systems
- Assessments for Major Adaptations e.g. wet floor showers, stair lifts, ramps

Patient/individuals
Carer/family members
Care staff
NHS staff – e.g. DNs, SLT, OT, H@H, AHP’s, Consultants
Nursing Homes
Who to refer:
Residents of East Lothian
Who not to refer:
Patients who are acutely unwell and at immediate risk of admission, these referrals should be directed to our Prevention of admission service.
Patients with potential undiagnosed significant injury (e.g. acute onset significant back pain with risk of potential fracture).

- Patient/carer self-referrals via Single Point of Contact Phoneline: 0300 369 0680, open 09.00 – 1pm and 1.45-3.15pm
