The exact incidence of Patellar tendon rupture is not known. It tends to affect more males than females. If the patient presents it is required for an urgent referral Orthopaedics.
Signs
- History of forced flexion of the knee
- May not be painful following the event
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Localised pain
- Deformity or displacement of the Patellar
- Higher in Diabetic patients
- Males > Females
Tests
- Significantly weak knee extension
- Unable to straight leg raise
- Palpable gap

- Urgent referral Orthopaedics
