The Scottish Government has recently changed the prescribing regulations in relation to the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) removing the need for SLS endorsement.
GPs can now prescribe GENERIC 5-PDEIs (eg sildenafil) on NHS prescription on the grounds of distress. Scottish Government has also changed the criteria for those with primary penile disease, so that they are also routinely entitled to an NHS prescription for ED medicines if they are suffering from distress. In either case there is no longer a requirement for SLS endorsement.
The ED Severe Distress mailbox (EDclinc@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk ) which has been operated by the Psychosexual Therapy Clinic will be closed in due course.
Please see the East Region Formulary for prescribing details and the 2024 NHS Circular gives further background.
