From 1 July 2022, legislative changes have enabled a wider range of healthcare professionals to certify fit notes. The healthcare professionals (HCP) who can now certify fit notes in addition to doctors are nurses, occupational therapists, pharmacists and physiotherapists. NHS Lothian has produced guidance for NMAHP clinicians and services who are seeking to implement fit note provision within their role and or service. This document (link to document) has been co-created and developed by NMAHPs and endorsed by the AHP Director and Executive Nurse director.
