Knee

The soft tissue knee service focuses on non arthritic knee issues, ie patients without severe arthritic changes on XR requesting knee replacement.

It is staffed by Orthopaedic Consultant Surgeons and Extended Scope Practitioners across four sites in Lothian.

Patients are sourced from GP referrals which are triaged by the ESP team, A&E referrals and virtual Trauma Triage Clinic.  Referrals are triaged to urgent or routine and can offer advice to the referring practitioner.

This Ref Help guide is divided into two sections – knee problems related to trauma and knee problems of spontaneous onset – and provides guidance on diagnosis, primary care management and referral to secondary care.
