Sewage contains a wealth of information in relation to antimicrobial resistance. This study looks at the bacteria and antimicrobial resistance genes found in sewage using metagenomics. We have both community samples and hospital wastewater samples and examine how antimicrobial resistance genes in sewage correlate with antimicrobial consumption and resistance in clinical isolates.
Work being performed in collaboration with Hannah Lepper and Bram van Bunnik from the University of Edinburgh Epidemiology Research Group.
