Laurenson co-author for genome sequencing TB paper

Dr Ian Laurenson is one of a global collection of Drs to write a new paper guiding best practice public health standards for whole genome sequencing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis

Dr Ian Laurenson is one of a global collection of Drs to write a new paper developing & guiding best practice public health standards for whole genome sequencing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB).

TB is preventable and curable, yet  an estimated 10.6 million people fell ill with TB in 2022 & 1.3 million people died, the second-leading infectious killer after COVID-19 (WHO,2023).  Multi-drug resistance is a global public health crisis & managing this relies on disease genome sequencing to stratify. The group contains contributors from Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, Singapore and more. Published now in The Lancet.

More information on TB available on the WHO website
