L.W 31-07-23<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs\" data-active-tab=\"0\"><ul class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__nav-links\"><\/ul>\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__nav-link\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title-wrapper\"><a href=\"#\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title\">Referral Guidelines<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content-wrapper\"><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who to refer:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Unprovoked lower limb DVT or PE &lt;45years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thrombosis at an unusual site unless clearly provoked by local surgery \/ infection&nbsp; e.g. mesenteric vein, portal vein, CVST<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thrombosis prone individuals with family history of unprovoked\/weekly provoked VTE in first degree relatives &lt;50years old.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pregnant women at risk of venous thrombosis:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.nhslothian.scot\/refhelp\/guidelines\/pregnancypreconceptionfhthrombosis\/\" target=\"_blank\">Preconception or pregnancy advice for those with a personal or family history of thrombosis<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.nhslothian.scot\/refhelp\/guidelines\/pregnancyorpreconceptionadvicewarfarinordoacs\/\" target=\"_blank\">Preconception or pregnancy advice for those on warfarin or DOACS<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Patients with a first degree relative with known antithrombin deficiency protein C or protein S deficiency.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who not to refer:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>First episode VTE&nbsp;&nbsp;&gt;45 years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>History of strongly provoked VTE only at any age<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Central venous catheter related thrombosis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Retinal vein occlusion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Asymptomatic relatives of patients with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, as this is an acquired disorder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Women seeking to use oestrogen containing medications (COCP, HRT) in whom there is already a personal or family history leading to a contra-indication or serious caution for use<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any patient with arterial thrombosis (unless suspicion of paradoxical embolism e.g. young stroke with proven PFO).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to refer:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>SCI gateway to the Department of Haematology RIE or SJH.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__nav-link\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title-wrapper\"><a href=\"#\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title\">Resources and Links<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content-wrapper\"><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apps.nhslothian.scot\/files\/sites\/2\/MEMO-re-HAEMATOLOGY-TESTS-clinically-important-information-9-Dec-2021.pdf\">Changes in coagulation testing.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/b-s-h.org.uk\/guidelines\/guidelines\/guidelines-for-thrombophilia-testing\">Guidelines for thrombophilia testing (b-s-h.org.uk)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Please note changes in coagulation testing &ndash;
