{"id":4338,"date":"2022-05-03T11:47:20","date_gmt":"2022-05-03T10:47:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apps.nhslothian.scot\/refhelp\/guidelines\/pregnancysupportcentre\/"},"modified":"2023-08-31T13:51:25","modified_gmt":"2023-08-31T12:51:25","slug":"pregnancyandbleedingat12weeksinpregnancy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/apps.nhslothian.scot\/refhelp\/guidelines\/gynaecology\/pregnancyandbleedingat12weeksinpregnancy\/","title":{"rendered":"Pain and bleeding at &lt;12 weeks in pregnancy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Pain and bleeding at &lt;12 weeks in pregnancy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pregnancy Support Centre (PSC) at RIE:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Opening hours&nbsp;<br>Monday to Friday: 08:30 \u2013 17:00hrs&nbsp;<br>Saturday and Sunday: 09:00 \u2013 15:30hrs&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Please note weekend service for priority emergencies only due to very limited resource (e.g. heavy PV bleeding or unilateral pain).<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU) at SJH:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Opening hours&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monday to Friday: 0900-1700hrs&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs\" data-active-tab=\"0\"><ul class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__nav-links\"><\/ul>\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__nav-link\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title-wrapper\"><a href=\"#\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title\">Referral Guidelines<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content-wrapper\"><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who can refer<\/strong>:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Appointments Only (Patient needs to phone the department to be triaged and given an appointment, they should not present in person)\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Self-referral<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>GP\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Practice Nurse&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Health Visitor&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Midwife\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who to refer<\/strong>:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All pregnant patients at less than 12 weeks gestation with pain or bleeding\u202f(including those with suspected ectopic pregnancy).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reassurance USS is available for patients who have had:\u00a0\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Previous ectopic pregnancy- USS at 6+2\/40\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Previous molar pregnancy&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We are unable to offer reassurance USS to patients who have had previous miscarriages at this time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who not to refer<\/strong>:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Patients with hyperemesis should be referred to obstetric triage.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to refer<\/strong>: <em> <\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em>(e.g. SCI &amp; which option etc)&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We operate an appointment system.
