{"id":4314,"date":"2022-05-03T11:47:20","date_gmt":"2022-05-03T10:47:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apps.nhslothian.scot\/refhelp\/guidelines\/podiatry\/"},"modified":"2024-06-13T08:43:31","modified_gmt":"2024-06-13T07:43:31","slug":"podiatry","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/apps.nhslothian.scot\/refhelp\/guidelines\/podiatry\/","title":{"rendered":"Podiatry"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Welcome to the NHS Lothian Podiatry <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apps.nhslothian.scot\/files\/sites\/2\/Podiatry-pathway.pdf\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/apps.nhslothian.scot\/files\/sites\/2\/Podiatry-pathway.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download PDF<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs\" data-active-tab=\"0\"><ul class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__nav-links\"><\/ul>\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__nav-link\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title-wrapper\"><a href=\"#\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title\">Referral Guidelines<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content-wrapper\"><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Emergency<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We aim to see emergency conditions within two working days from receipt of referral:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Active Foot Ulceration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Charcot Neuroarthropthy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Urgent<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We aim to see urgent conditions within two to four weeks from receipt of referral:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Onychocryptosis\/Paronychia (specify if infection present)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Curved nails (involution) with infection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Soft tissue pathology which is at risk of ulceration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Armed forces &amp; veterans- in line with NHS Lothian policy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diabetic patients with a high risk\/in remission status<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Off work\/study due to MSK condition<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Main carer where MSK condition impacting significantly on ability to provide care<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Please provide as much detail as possible to help the triage process. Decision of priority remains with triaging clinician.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Advice Only<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This service is intended to offer Primary care clinicians, Podiatry advice on clinical problems, which may not require a formal referral\/ assessment if simple advice or tips would suffice- accessed via SCI referral<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Podiatrist has the option to put the patient on to the relevant waiting list if it is felt an appointment is necessary<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Routine conditions:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MSK conditions such as suspected Morton\u2019s neuroma, plantar heel pain, tendinopathy, hallux valgus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Non specific MSK conditions i.e. general foot pain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Soft tissue injuries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Symptomatic nail or skin pathology which has not responded with self-management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Patients with Diabetes whose risk factor changes to moderate risk.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Please provide as much detail as possible to help the triage process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What not to refer:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Basic personal foot care and nail cutting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Asymptomatic nail pathology in healthy individuals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fungal nail infections<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Asymptomatic skin lesions such as callous and corns in healthy individuals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Asymptomatic flat feet<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Verrucae<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Request for ankle foot orthotics and bespoke footwear<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4
