{"id":4163,"date":"2022-05-03T11:47:20","date_gmt":"2022-05-03T10:47:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apps.nhslothian.scot\/refhelp\/guidelines\/nasalfractures\/"},"modified":"2023-08-30T11:07:27","modified_gmt":"2023-08-30T10:07:27","slug":"nasalfractures","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/apps.nhslothian.scot\/refhelp\/guidelines\/entadult\/nose\/nasalfractures\/","title":{"rendered":"Nasal Fractures"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<title>Nasal Fractures<\/title>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b\u200bThe majority of patients present to Accident and Emergency at the time of injury and, if a fracture is suspected, they will usually be offered an appointment at St John\u2019s Hospital ENT Emergency Clinic approximately five days after the injury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If nasal manipulation is required, it will be performed<em> ideally<\/em> within two weeks of the injury (the longer the delay the decreased chance of successful outcome).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs\" data-active-tab=\"0\"><ul class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__nav-links\"><\/ul>\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__nav-link\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title-wrapper\"><a href=\"#\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title\">Referral Guidelines<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content-wrapper\"><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Treatment may be unnecessary if no deformity or breathing difficulties .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If patients present to GPs within 2 weeks of&nbsp;nasal injury&nbsp;and have&nbsp;nasal deviation, please call the ENT doctor on call via St John\u2019s Hospital switchboard (01506 523 000) in order for an appropriate ENT Emergency Clinic appointment to be issued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If patients present to GPs&nbsp;more than&nbsp;2 weeks post injury and there is significant deformity , there will not be enough time to arrange&nbsp; manipulation,&nbsp; and a routine ENT referral should be made via SCI Gateway.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__nav-link\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title-wrapper\"><a href=\"#\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title\">Resources and Links<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content-wrapper\"><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nasal Fractures &#8203;&#8203;The majority of patients present to Accident and Emergency at the time of injury and, if a fracture is suspected, they will usually be offered an appointment at St John&rsquo;s Hospital ENT Emergency Clinic approximately five days after the injury.
