{"id":3666,"date":"2022-05-03T11:47:20","date_gmt":"2022-05-03T10:47:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apps.nhslothian.scot\/refhelp\/guidelines\/adhdcamhs\/"},"modified":"2025-01-29T11:04:11","modified_gmt":"2025-01-29T11:04:11","slug":"adhdcamhs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/apps.nhslothian.scot\/refhelp\/guidelines\/childandadolescentmentalhealthcamh\/adhdcamhs\/","title":{"rendered":"AD(H)D CAMHS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Problem<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Attention Deficit Hyper-activity Disorder \/Attention Deficit Disorder <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Description <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Attention Deficit Hyper-activity Disorder is characterised by<strong> pervasive<\/strong> lack of attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity across more than one situation and setting \u2013 at home, school, and in public \u2013 which began before 7 years of age.<br><br>Children with <strong>ADD<\/strong> present with symptoms other than hyperactivity.<br><br>Please note children and adolescents present differently, particularly adolescent girls who my present with anxiety, poor concentration and low mood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs\" data-active-tab=\"0\"><ul class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__nav-links\"><\/ul>\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__nav-link\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title-wrapper\"><a href=\"#\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title\">Referral Guidelines<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content-wrapper\"><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who to refer:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Families with children who display difficulties in these categories should have already received significant advice and intervention from other professionals such as paediatricians, health visitors, social workers and educational support services before referral to CAMHS is made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For children under 5 the normal route to assessment would be via Community Paediatrics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CAMHS would not normally assess a child for ADHD until they have completed at least one term of primary school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If concerns exist an assessment will be offered if the child has significant difficulties with hyperactivity (although not in ADD), impulsivity, inattention in more than one setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who not to refer:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"\/refhelp\/furtherinfo\/inappropriatereferralstocamhs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CAMH Inappropriate Referrals<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__nav-link\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title-wrapper\"><a href=\"#\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title\">Primary Care Management<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content-wrapper\"><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder-adhd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder-adhd\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Healthy reading scheme<\/strong>, available in all Lothian libraries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>West Lothian:&nbsp;<\/strong>The Mental Health and Mental Wellbeing Screening group offers a wide variety of support for children young people and their families.
