{"id":24413,"date":"2025-06-19T17:05:36","date_gmt":"2025-06-19T16:05:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apps.nhslothian.scot\/refhelp\/?page_id=24413"},"modified":"2026-02-04T11:12:27","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T11:12:27","slug":"occupational-therapy-lcnrs-ot","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/apps.nhslothian.scot\/refhelp\/guidelines\/rehabilitation\/neurorehabilitation\/occupational-therapy-lcnrs-ot\/","title":{"rendered":"Occupational Therapy (LCNRS-OT)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Lothian Community Neuro Rehab Service- Occupational Therapy (LCNRS-OT)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Information<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We work in partnership with people who have a neurological condition to support their rehabilitation.&nbsp;<strong>Compensatory\/adaptive<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>restorative<\/strong>&nbsp;techniques are employed as the primary therapeutic modalities in rehabilitation.Our service is Pan Lothian- we cover Edinburgh , East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our occupational therapy offer aims to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Optimise a person\u2019s physical, psychological and social wellbeing with a focus on occupational participation and engagement within a community setting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work alongside those who are important to the person, including carers, as a critical part of the persons road to recovery.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enable risk to maximise outcomes and promote participation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide an individualised person-centred goal-orientated approach, informed by evidence and best practice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Utilise supported self-management approach to maximise outcomes of the people we support, using a knowledge base of psychoeducation to promote health and wellbeing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support and sustain the persons transition from hospital to home and community -collaboratively identifying person centred rehabilitation outcomes, using assessment and planned intervention to support the person.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Focus on community re-engagement underpins our active linking with other community facing services \u2013 whether statutory or third sector to ensure the outcomes of those we support are met.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our specialist interventions are based on shared decision making and person-centred goal setting. Our staff group are trained in good conversations, solution focussed therapy and supported self management. Our specialist interventions include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Vocational Rehab- advice, retention, return to work adjustments, work hardening and transfer of skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital technology for participation and independence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enhanced psychological therapies to support engagement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Instrumental activities of daily living (for example \u2013 managing finances, driving, household management and relationships)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Community integration- functional mobility, how and support required<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Postural care- to promote engagement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Modification of environment \u2013 to promote engagement and participation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Operationally we aim to be responsive through the provision of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Active clinical triage of all requests daily by the Advanced Practitioners<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Initial contact with the person within 5 working days following the receipt of the request<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>M.A. &amp; V.K.\/L.M 10-07-25<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs\" data-active-tab=\"0\"><ul class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__nav-links\"><\/ul>\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__nav-link\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title-wrapper\"><a href=\"#\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title\">Referral Guidelines<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content-wrapper\"><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to refer:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Referrals can be done via SCI gateway or through emailing\/posting <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.nhslothian.scot\/files\/sites\/2\/Neuro-Rehab-SPOA-referral-form-2026.docx\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/apps.nhslothian.scot\/files\/sites\/2\/Neuro-Rehab-SPOA-referral-form-2026.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">referral form<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Referrals can be sent:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Email<\/strong>: <a href=\"mailto:loth.neurorehaboutpatientservice@nhs.scot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">loth.neurorehaboutpatientservice@nhs.scot<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Post: <\/strong>LCNRS-OT, Outpatient Therapy Hub, Astley Ainslie Hospital, 133 Grange Loan, EH9 2HL<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sci Gateway:<\/strong> (AAH &gt; Neuro Rehabilitation &gt;Ll Neuro rehabilitation).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Telephone:<\/strong> We are happy to consult on referrals by telephone: 0131 537 9089.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who can refer:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Referrals can come from anyone including- service users, family members, all Health Care Professionals, Third Sector and Primary Care Practitioners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who to refer:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone with a neurological condition that is impacting on their participation, living in Lothian and age 16+ will be considered.
