A similar service operates within the labour ward at St John\u2019s Hospital.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>M.A. &amp; C.C. 23-02-23<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs\" data-active-tab=\"0\"><ul class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__nav-links\"><\/ul>\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__nav-link\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title-wrapper\"><a href=\"#\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__title\">Referral Guidelines<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content-wrapper\"><div class=\"wp-block-getwid-tabs__tab-content\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who can refer<\/strong>:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Patients can self-refer (preferred option)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>GP<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Midwives<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Other medical specialties<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who to refer:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Any pregnant patient &gt;12 weeks gestation with an urgent problem relating to their pregnancy which requires same-day assessment e.g. vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, reduced fetal movement, suspicion of labour, hypertension, signs of preeclampsia.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Any pregnant patient&lt;12 weeks gestation with nausea and vomiting of pregnancy requiring hospital care.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Postnatal patients up to 6 weeks following birth, with an urgent problem relating to their recent pregnancy e.g. heavy vaginal bleeding, suspected sepsis.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who not to refer:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Patients who are &gt;6 weeks postnatal or not pregnant.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Patients experiencing ongoing complications following birth should be referred to gynaecology.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Patients with a non-urgent problem (i.e. not requiring same-day assessment)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to refer:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em>For emergencies and urgent care, patients can come without calling.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>However, if possible, the patient should phone for advice first.
